CCTV & Surveillance Notice
Last updated 11 September 2026. Why we use CCTV, and how footage is handled.
Draft — pending legal review
This page is a starting template, built from the facts available about The Dew Sweep. It is not legal advice and has not yet been reviewed by a solicitor. Please have it checked against Irish GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018 and ePrivacy requirements before relying on it publicly — bracketed details still need confirming.
1. Why we use CCTV
The Dew Sweep operates as a 24/7, unstaffed facility — there is no one behind a desk at any point. CCTV is used to keep the premises, equipment and everyone on site safe and secure in place of a physical member of staff. Specifically, it is used to:
- Deter and, if needed, help investigate crime or damage to property.
- Verify access and help resolve access or booking disputes.
- Support health and safety, including remote assistance if something goes wrong.
- Protect house equipment, including the house club sets, from misuse or theft.
2. Who operates it
CCTV is operated by The Dew Sweep. The alarm system, including panic buttons, is professionally monitored 24/7 by a licensed alarm receiving centre. Footage is not continuously monitored by The Dew Sweep's own team; the monitoring centre can access CCTV footage when an alarm or panic button is triggered, and can alert emergency services if needed. [confirm whether panic-button two-way audio is recorded]
3. What is recorded
Cameras record video only [confirm — update if audio recording is also used, which carries additional requirements]. Cameras cover the entrance, car park, and the bays themselves. They do not cover any private facilities such as toilets or changing areas. [confirm exact camera locations against the finished fit-out].
4. Legal basis
We rely on our legitimate interests — and those of our visitors — in keeping an unstaffed premises secure, safe and properly run, as the legal basis for this processing. We have considered this against visitors' privacy rights and believe CCTV is necessary and proportionate given the unstaffed model.
5. How long footage is kept
Footage is normally retained for a limited period [confirm exact period — commonly around 30 days is a reasonable default] and then automatically overwritten, unless a specific recording needs to be kept for longer to investigate an incident, resolve a dispute, or meet a legal request.
6. Who can access footage
- The Dew Sweep's owner/operator, for legitimate security or operational reasons.
- Our alarm-monitoring provider, acting on our behalf. [name provider once appointed]
- An Garda Síochána or other authorities, where legally required.
- You, in relation to footage of yourself — see Section 7.
Footage is not used for marketing purposes and is not published online.
7. Your rights
If you believe you appear in our CCTV footage, you can request a copy of that footage under data protection law. We will need enough detail to locate the relevant recording (e.g. the date, approximate time, and which area) and will redact or obscure any other identifiable individuals before providing it to you. To make a request, email info@thedewsweep.ie.
You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission if you are unhappy with how a request is handled.
8. Signage
Physical signage is displayed at the entrance and around the premises to notify visitors that CCTV is in operation, in line with Irish data protection guidance. This web notice does not replace that on-site signage. [Confirm physical signage is installed before opening — this is a legal requirement, not just good practice.]
9. More information
This notice should be read alongside our full Privacy Policy. For any question about CCTV specifically, email info@thedewsweep.ie or message us on WhatsApp.
